Questions students often ask
Do I need to memorise every practical method for GCSE Science?+
You should know the key apparatus, measurements and sequence for the practical work on your specification, but exams also test whether you can apply those ideas to unfamiliar investigations. Variables, data, graphs, calculations and evaluation are just as important as recalling the method.
Are required practicals the same for AQA, OCR and Edexcel?+
No. The boards organise and name practical work differently. AQA refers to required practicals, OCR Gateway uses PAGs, and Edexcel includes core practical work. The underlying exam skills overlap, so always revise using the specification for your own board.
What practical skills are most useful in the exam?+
Students are commonly asked to describe or improve a method, identify variables, interpret tables and graphs, calculate from practical data, explain anomalies, discuss uncertainty and judge whether a conclusion is supported by the evidence.
How should I revise GCSE Science practicals?+
Revise one practical at a time, then answer questions without your notes. Check which marking points you missed, correct the scientific wording and repeat the question later. That is more useful than only rereading the method.
