Our approach

ExamFix is designed to help students learn how to improve GCSE Science answers, not simply hand them answers. AI is used as a study-support tool for marking, feedback, explanations and guided help, while students remain responsible for checking and submitting their own work.

How ExamFix uses AI

To mark GCSE Science practice answers and explain where marks were gained or missed.
To give question-specific hints and guided learning when a student is stuck.
To explain scientific ideas in clearer language and support answer improvement.
To read selected learning content aloud where the voice feature is available.
To safety-check and transcribe handwritten answers when a student deliberately uses the scan feature.
To privately convert a single GCSE Science question uploaded through Snap a Question into interactive ExamFix practice.

Handwritten-answer scanning

The scan feature is for study answers only. Uploaded images are automatically safety-checked before transcription. Students should not upload explicit, harmful, illegal, unrelated, identity, payment, password or other sensitive personal images.

The selected image is processed so ExamFix can check it and convert the visible answer into text. ExamFix does not save the original uploaded image as part of the student's account record. Students are shown the transcribed text and should check it before submitting because handwriting recognition can make mistakes.

Snap a Question

Snap a Question is designed for a student's own private study. Students should upload one question at a time and only material they are authorised or otherwise permitted to use. Uploaded questions are not added to ExamFix's public question bank or made available to unrelated users. Where a student has deliberately linked an authorised parent or other supported account view, related practice activity may still appear through those existing permissions.

The original image is safety-checked and processed to extract the question. ExamFix does not store the source photo on its servers. To support tappable annotations, a temporary copy may remain locally on the device/browser used for up to 24 hours; expired copies are cleared when ExamFix next runs its local cleanup. If no official mark scheme is supplied, ExamFix generates its own marking guidance and clearly labels it as generated guidance rather than an official exam-board or teacher mark scheme. Clear graphs, diagrams and circuits can be supported with safe hotspots and hidden marking context; unclear or cropped visuals are rejected rather than guessed.

Student privacy

ExamFix does not sell personal data.
There are no third-party advertising cookies inside the ExamFix service.
We collect and use information needed to provide accounts, learning features, progress tracking, security and support.
Handwritten-answer images are not stored as part of the student's ExamFix account record after processing. Snap a Question source images are not stored on ExamFix servers; a temporary local device/browser copy may be used for the interactive view.
Private structured questions created through Snap a Question remain linked to the student who uploaded them and are not made public; authorised linked-account progress views may still include related practice activity.
Students, parents and schools can read full details in the Privacy Policy and contact ExamFix about access, correction or deletion requests.

Age and safeguarding

ExamFix is designed for secondary-school learners. Users must be aged 13 or over to use ExamFix independently. A user under 13 must have permission from a parent, guardian or teacher.

We aim to keep student-facing AI focused on GCSE Science learning. The platform includes safeguards around uploaded images and acceptable use, and accounts may be restricted where the service is misused or our Terms are breached.

AI can make mistakes

AI marking, explanations, speech and handwriting recognition are not guaranteed to be error-free. ExamFix is continually tested and improved, but students should use feedback alongside school teaching, textbooks and official exam-board materials. ExamFix should not be treated as the final authority on a student's grade or an official exam-board mark scheme.
